SANParks Wildlife Photography Regulations at Boulders Beach

If you are planning to bring cameras or specialized photography gear to Boulders Beach or Foxy Beach, please observe the mandatory conservation rules enforced by Table Mountain National Park rangers:

  • Strict Drone Prohibition: Recreational and commercial drone flights (UAVs / RPAS) are strictly illegal throughout Table Mountain National Park, including all airspaces above Boulders Beach, Seaforth, and Simon's Town coastline. Violations carry immediate equipment confiscation and heavy criminal fines.
  • No Flash Photography: Camera flash and artificial strobes are prohibited near nesting burrows, molting penguins, and chicks. Flash disorients African Penguins and can cause adult birds to abandon fragile eggs.
  • Keep a 3-Meter Distance: Never use selfie sticks, extension poles, or handheld gimbals to bridge the gap between boardwalk handrails and resting penguins. Pushing cameras into nesting crevices is a prosecutable wildlife offense.
  • Commercial Filming Permits: Documentaries, professional fashion shoots, and commercial media productions require prior written permitting and filming permits from SANParks Head Office.
